Under 16 1/2 Hurling

Our Under 16 1/2 hurlers continued their winning run beating Scoil Ruain, Killenaule in the Munster quarter final. Convincing winners in the end, 4-18 to 1-10 it was hard earned victory playing against an ill-diciplined Tipp side. Leading by 10 points at half time thanks to two first half goals from Tom Looby and Sam Murphy Nix Killenaule came out all guns blazing in the second half. Trying to provoke and upset the Friary lads through off the ball incidents and late tackles, the Dungarvan lads stuck to task in hand and responded to Killenaule where it hurt most - on the score board. An all round team effort with some notable performances from Tony Collins and Mick Devine in defence, Cathal Curran Midfield and Neil Montgomery and Aaron Beresford working hard upfront. Next match is either against Mitchelstown CBS or St. Joseph's Borrisoleigh in the Munster Semi Final on Wednesday Nov 12th. Congratulations to all and thanks to coaches Ms Lisa Hanrick and Mr Jason Forestall.

Devereaux Cup

Well done to our golfers on their victory over the CBS, Dungarvan in the annual Devereux Cup golf challenge. The competition took place at West Waterford Golf on Tuesday 23rd of September. With the two teams tied at six games each, the top pairing played the first hole again to decide the winner. Eoin Conway, who earlier lost his match to Luke Cummins on the 18th, birdied the 1st play-off hole to win the cup for St Augustine’s. This event is very closely contested every year with only a putt between the teams. This year’s encounter was no different than previous years and proved to be a very close and exciting contest. Many thanks to Mr Barry and his team who were worthy opponents and put up a great challenge. Thanks also to West Waterford Golf club for the use of their course and facilities and to our sponsor, Mr Noel Devereux of Devereux Menswear, Dungarvan.

Angela seals victory for Rebelettes

Friary hearts swelled with pride when our own Angela Walsh slammed the sliotar into the back of the Kilkenny goal four minutes into injury time to secure Cork's victory over Kilkenny in the All Ireland Ladies Camogie final in Croke Park on Sunday. Angela was also a key player in Jennifer O'Leary's 40th minute goal. Angela now turns her attention to the Ladies Football Final later in the month when the Rebelettes take on Dublin. Congratulations to Angela and the Cork team from all of us at St Augustine's College. Best of luck in the football final.

All members played a vital part in the success of the team but particular mention must go to Eoin Conway who birdied three of the last four holes to lead his team to victory in a very tight and exciting final.
