Munster 60/30 Handball

Munster Colleges Handball

The Munster Colleges 60/30 Handball Championship took place in Hospital, Co. Limerick. The Friary Handball team accompanied by team coach Bro Finbarr Spring OSA and came home with a trove of medals.

Munster HandballRory Cusack and Keelan Dee Carter were runners-up in the 1st Year Doubles.

Tom Looby and Gavin Joyce were also runners-up in the Junior Boys Doubles.

Ciarán O’Neill and Jamie Joyce took the runners-up slot in the Intermediate Boys Doubles, while Ciarán was also runner –up in the Intermediate Boys Singles.

Congratulations to all the team and coach Bro Finbarr Spring OSA.

Senior Hurling

We play Pallaskenry in the Munster Senior Hurling C semi-final in Cashel at 12 30 this Wednesday 15th Jan. After three good wins we hope to reach the final of this competition again for the first time since 2010.

                                  Inter-Schools Showjumping at Ballyrafter

Over twenty post-primary schools took part in this annual showjumping event at The Ballyrafter Centre on Sunday, January, 26th. The Friary was represented by Shane Moloney, Matthew Henley, Aimee Moloney and Tommy Harty. The team (pictured about) put up a very competitive performance and took fourth place. Congratulations to all the team members and a special word of thanks to chef d’equipe Mrs Louise Moloney, Colligan Equestrian Centre.

SENIOR FOOTBALLERS ADVANCE TO MUNSTER SEMI FINAL

The scoreline indicated a facile win and for much of this match the Friary boys did indeed control matters but the real deciding factor in this quarter final tie was the dismissal of two Hazelwood players in a single incident early in the second half.  St. Augustine’s began well and despite some early misses led by three points at the ten minute mark.  Two cracking goals by John Elstead and Paul Tobin afforded some breathing space and the Friary boys looked set for an easy victory.  Hazelwood however dominated the last ten minutes of the half and had reduced the deficit to six by the break.

The Friary Ladies contested the Senior B Munster final against nearby opponents from Carrick-on-Suir. The game was played in Stradbally on Wednesday, January 22nd and was a nail biting affair from start to finish.
