Martial Arts World Championships

Kitty Ross (3rd Year) travelled to Malaga, Spain recently to represent Ireland in the WMO Championships and came home with a trove of three gold medals. Kitty competed in the Under 17 Traditional Kata, Traditional Weapons and Creative Weapons categories and won gold in all three. What a marvellous achievement for this young athlete. Well done Kitty. Convincing Win for Senior “A” Ladies Football Team

Our Senior Ladies Football team secured a comprehensive victory over Coláiste Dún Iascaigh (Cahir) in the first round of the first round of the group. Great confidence buildings start to the championship and a great team performance. The girls played skilfully and worked very hard to ensure victory. The panel included players from 2nd to 6th Year reflecting the cross section of talented players we have at The Friary. Well done girls who now face Greenhill’s in round two. Congrats to team mentors, Ms Lisa Hanrick and Ms Angela Walsh.

Golf- Senior & Junior Schools’ Championship

Organised by The Golfing Union of Ireland, this event took place on Thursday, September 29th at Clonmel Golf Club. The Senior team finished fourth overall while the Junior team were very unlucky finishing one shot behind. Congrats to all including team mentor Mr Donal Williams.

Junior Ladies Football TeamOur Junior Ladies Football team travelled to Cahir to take on John the Baptist, Co Limerick in first round of Junior A championship. While The Friary girls were well beaten the team displayed a good fighting spirit particularly in the second half. Loretto, Fermoy are our opponents in the next round. Best of luck girls. Junior Ladies' Football Challenge 2nd Years vs 3rd Years


Fifty-three girls participated in a trial for the Junior Ladies Football Panel. A great afternoon of exercise and fresh air for the girls. Many thanks to Ms Angela Walsh and Ms Lisa Hanrick who organised the challenge. Best of luck to our Junior Ladies Footballers in the coming year of competition.

Our Senior Hurlers started their campaign against Kanturk Community School last Wednesday in Rathcormac. Starting well, playing with a breeze The Friary boys lead five points to two after 15 minutes. Two goals against play saw Kanturk get on top and go in three points up at half time. (2-06 to 0-09)

The Friary had a great win in this Munster  first round game played in Lismore on Thursday last. Playing with a strong breeze in the first half we went in at half time four points up thanks to a Joey Curran goal and points from Jake Moore, Oisin Hallahan, Niall Buckley and Michael Flynn.

GP 14 Autumn Open Championships

Congratulations to Ella Crowe (3rd Year) who took part in the GP 14 Autumn Open Championships at Rosses Point, Sligo recently. Ella has a very busy weekend competing in events both on Saturday and Sunday.

Séamus Power -Drops in


Professional golfer and past pupil, Séamus Power took time out of his busy schedule to visit his Alma Mater on Thursday last. The Friary is very proud of Séamus’ success on the golf course, most notably his win in the United Leasing and Finance Championship in May of this year making him the first Irishman to win on the Tour, the developmental tour of the PGA Tour.
